Thomas Slade - 'A Month of Sundays - Responses to the Covid-19 Lockdown' online exhibition at PhotospaceGallery.nz, April 2020 -
I've been intrigued by the interaction with strangers during my daily outings in lockdown. Elaborate efforts to maintain the two metre bubble is offset by friendly greetings. Carrying a camera amplifies these actions as both an object of interest and uncertainty. I wanted to take portraits during this time because I felt that people’s trust in each other would be strengthened rather than weakened and approaching strangers with my camera would give me a chance to support this theory.
