'Necessary Distraction' features photographs by Susan Barber, Jane Fisher, Janet Ford, Andy Hansen, Ann Kilpatrick, Alex Thomas, and John Williams. The exhibition is curated from projects done on our Photocourse 3, a project-based photography course run by James Gilberd and John Williams at Photospace during 2021 and into 2022. Broad project themes were The Portrait, Documentary Series, and Sense of Place. Covd-19's effects on personal and family life, and the social, economic and urban landscapes, are apparent in various ways across multiple photographic projects, making 'Necessary Distraction' unique among our series of course-based group exhibitions. 'Necessary Distraction' runs from Friday 3rd June to Saturday 2nd July. Gallery hours are 10am-3pm Monday-Friday and 11am-2pm Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays. (Queen's Birthday and Matariki holidays fall withing this exhibition period.) Artist statements are linked below. Clicking on a photo will open a new blog page.
