“ABJECT”: Something that is neither subject nor object, but rather something that disturbs identity, system and order.
- Julia Kristeva

ABJECT is a collection of six unique, queer experiences across Aotearoa. This newly published photobook combines handwritten interviews and film photography to understand how societal norms and subjection can shape queer identities, self-perception and experiences. ABJECT is shot in Wellington and Auckland, focusing on the queer cultural significance of K Road and Cuba Street.

Throughout the course of this project, I have been in contact with Fiona Clark, who generously lent her expertise to help guide my work.
- Lili Davies 2024

Lili Davies is a Design student at Victoria University of Wellington in her final year. Specialising in graphic design, photography, and sculptural art, Lili explores identity, queerness and representation through diverse creative mediums. ABJECT is completed and published in a 206x275mm photobook - see below and on PhotoForum site.
