"This exhibition combines black and white portraits from two separate series: Transition (2007/2009) and Women 2011, and continues my exploration into identity.
"From boys on the cusp of adulthood, to women of middle age, all were photographed during a period of change in their lives. Within these groupings are other more subtle connections; those shared between family, photographer and sitter, and location. "As much as these are an invitation for close scrutiny of the individual image, they are also offered up as acknowledgment of their collectiveness." Jan Young - artist info
Jan Young’s latest bodies of work concentrate on portraits, with the use of a large format 4x5 film camera and available light. They reflect her on-going interest in the people and activities to be found within her local environment of rural West Auckland.
Since graduating in 2007 with a Diploma in Photography from Unitec in Auckland, Jan has been actively involved with PhotoForum Inc. (NZ); a not-for-profit society dedicated to the promotion of photography as a means of expression and communication. |
