Heinz Sobiecki
'Just a PC with love and kisses'
Exhibition at Photospace Gallery,
15th August - 6th September 2014

A century ago, postcards were used much as text messages are today – a quick note, a catch-up.
In this unique, historically-themed exhibition,
Heinz Sobiecki combines images of the backs of selected century-old postcards with his own recent images relating to the postcards' stories.

The story around each postcard has been researched; but due to the brevity of the messages, some things have to be left to the imagination.  Sobiecki's photographs relate mainly the factual historical information, but also in part to the imagined.

One postcard was sent by a woman living at 3 Moxham Avenue, Hataitai, Wellington, to (presumably) her lover, a  soldier fighting at Gallipoli, Turkey, during The Great War. This exhibition has been timed for the centennial of that WWI campaign.
