Photographer and writer Mark Beehre celebrates a journey of discovery and reclamation. In 1944 his mother and grandmother fled their homeland, the Baltic republic of Latvia, to escape the invading Soviet army. More than seventy years later he took his mother back to her homeland to rediscover a past she had never known and reclaim the story of the father she had lost. Returning Home – A Place to Stand uses text and images to document that journey.
Mark Beehre's exhibition runs in Room 3 of Photospace Gallery, 37 Courtenay Place, Wellington, New Zealand, from the 4th to the 27th of November, 2017.
